THE OVERARCHING PRINCIPLE

Rhythm

The tempo that modulates every other parameter of the game.

Rhythm is not one pole among the others — it is the meta-parameter that governs them all. It sets the amplitude of an imbalance, the timing of a touch, the speed of the flow, the patience of a feint. The drum decides whether the game is slow or afire; every other value on this diagram is read through it. This is why it envelops the whole figure rather than sitting on an axis: change the rhythm, and you change everything at once. Lose it, and you have already lost — before a single blow is thrown.

IN THE SYSTEM

→ Co-opposition — The other is at once adversary and partner — with and against, in the same gesture.

→ Continuous flow — An insurmountable rule: never leaving the rhythm.

IN THE CORPUS
